
Elizabeth de Souza’s award-winning essays have appeared in “Callaloo,” “Southern Indiana Review” and “Solstice Literary Magazine.” In the past year she has been a Finalist for the Creative Capital Award, the Jeff Baskin Oxford American Writers Fellowship, and the Mary C. Mohr Award.
She is a 2019 MacDowell Fellow, and the 2020 Rona Jaffe Foundation - Hedgebrook Fellow. Elizabeth is also an emerging curator.
Her first book, “Sleeping in the Fire: The Black Artist in America” is forthcoming. In support of this project, she has been named the 2020 Barbara Smith Writer-in-Residence at Twelve Literary Arts. Elizabeth lives with her husband and their two young children in the Pittsburgh area.
